Nothing Gold, A Poem by David Giali

Hold onto those grains of sand

Scream into the reckless wind

Until the weightless air deceives your beating breath.

Moonlight à la masquerade

Muddy boots form the parade

A river’s cadence marching through the clay.

Shattered sun refract in rays

As time is painted on my face

Until the mirrors’s man decides he will betray

Morning frost like brittle bone

One thousand steps of ageless stone

Until the silver pines and I are left alone .

Sweeping sky to set the pace

Throwing flies across the lake

Shedding time by skipping stones

Ebb and flow and I am turned back whole
